Lesson 132:“Are We There Yet?”
Kentucky Chaplain David Chaltas
I recall with great pleasure and affection the many trips taken with my children. No matter the distance, the same question would come from one of the mouths, “Daddy, are we there yet?” I remember my response was always the same. “Not yet but almost.” One particular trip, we were traveling the great pacific coast and Tonya just could not imagine it being so long. “Are we there yet, Daddy, I’ve got to go!” and after driving what seems forever, with them getting tired and restless, we would find a safe haven. We would stretch our weary bones and walk around. After being renewed and refreshed we would take off one more time for our unknown destination. I remember so vividly the journey; yet forget the destination.
How many times in our lives do we get impatient and wonder when will this end? How did our ancestors handle their struggles and what renewed them on their journey? From the Revolutionary War to current times, those men and women that embraced the sound principles of the Bible found refuge from the storm. So many times we get tired of the journey, allowing the man-made stresses create an illusion of urgency that permeates the soul. The end result is that or tranquil walk with our Creator is disturbed. The best thing we can do is stop, get rid of the excess baggage, relax and be refreshed.
The renewal of spirit comes from knowing Christ as your Redeemer and having that one on one walk with Him. He is your guiding light and will never leave you as an orphan. His promise is written all through the Bible. “Come unto me ye who are weak and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” He is infallible. He is Omnipotent. He is Omnipresent. He is the Living Waters that will renew you your spirit and afford you the peace that will last forever and a day. Whatever your question, God is the answer.
