Lesson 278: Sin is Gone
Chaplain Paul Jackson, 5th Georgia Infantry
.
Psalm 32
1Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.
2Blessed is the man unto whom the LORD imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile.
These are truly some blessed words! They state unequivocally that there are those people to whom the Lord does not impute iniquity – to whom their sin is covered – forgiven!
How blessed a thing to be in such a state! Well worth further investigation, don’t you think? In Romans 6:18 we read where the Apostle Paul tells us that as born again people we are made free from sin. 17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. 18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.
So not only is sin not imputed to us anymore, we are now free from it! Romans 8:1 reiterates Psalm 32:1-2. There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
We can take it even farther. Romans 7 talks about how we as Christians cannot even sin anymore! Now this has to be read in full to understand what God is saying. Any text in the Word of God must be taken in the proper context.
What Paul says in Romans is that since we are free from the Law of sin and death we can no longer sin. Then, in a slightly confusing few verses he talks about how he just finds himself sinning still, and can't seem to stop. However, he points out it is his flesh which continues to sin, not his spirit. His spirit can no longer sin, since the law has been removed!
Look at it like this. If you are driving down the road, and there is no speed limit posted or otherwise, is it even possible to break the law as far as speeding goes? Not if that law has been lifted it certainly is not! And the Law we were under—the law of sin and death has been removed for us! Now that is worth shouting about!
Our bodies never do get saved, and they are still under the law and the curse. We must continually keep them in subjection to our spirit – to The Spirit in order to keep away from sin. But it is such a blessed thought to know that from the time we were washed clean by the precious blood of Jesus sin has not, nor will it ever be imputed to us any longer! We are free from it forever! Amen, and amen!
