Lesson 32: Letting Go While Hanging On
Kentucky Chaplain Chaltas & guest presenter: Tammy Cook

Sometimes in life we have placed in our path what we feel are insurmountable obstacles. We allow ourselves to be overwhelmed by the sheer magnitude of our problems. The problem may be involving something personal, a loved one, an out of control financial distress, or other shades of darkness that prevents the light from shining upon our path. We feel lost. We feel besieged. Where can we go? What can we do? Who can we turn to? “Because thou shalt forget thy misery, and remember it as waters that pass away: and thine age shall be clearer than the noonday; thou shalt shine forth, thou shalt be as the morning. And thou shalt be secure, because there is hope: yea, thou shalt dig about thee, and thou shalt take thy rest in safety”…Job 11:16-19. We must remember where our hope comes from, in whom we must trust, where we are going according to God’s will and in doing all we can to stand, therefore stand and see the works of the Lord. “Trust in the Lord with all thy heart and all thy soul and lean not unto your own understanding.” There are going to be trials and tribulations in your life but with the trials and temptations He WILL provide a means of escape. It is stated in His word. It is not always according to our timing, our will but His. As I have experienced in my journey, His timing is perfect. It doesn’t matter what I am going through right at this moment, for I know what God has done for me and how blessed I am. And even though I sit here and reflect upon the problems in my journey that seem to be so overwhelming, I know that God has the answer. Thank God that all things are possible through Him. I know that He is a faithful God. I know where He has brought me from and by faith where He is taking me. Day by day I am led by the glory of an omnipotent Master and when the final curtain falls, all things will be revealed and I will finally realize His purpose for the trials in my journey.

Hebrews 11:1 offers us insight into letting go and how to rejoice during your trials. “Now Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” 1st Peter 1:6-7 models how to let go, clinging only to your faith. “In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, whom having not seen you love. Though now you do not see him, yet believe you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, receiving the end of you faith-the salvation of your souls. Searching what, or what manner of time, the spirit of Christ who was in them was indicating when He testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow. Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” All the answers are in the Book of books.

Sometimes just letting go and letting God can be such a simple task that it seems almost impossible to do. I guess this is where the term faith in things not yet seen comes into play in our lives. Know this: God will do for you what you cannot do for yourself. May the God of Hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you will overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13.
