Lesson 83: Uncharted Waters
Kentucky Chaplain David Chaltas
Smooth sailing! Peaceful beaches, tranquil lagoons and a soothing sea! That is what we all envision within our lives. But the reality of life is that storms will ensue, hurricanes will hit the coast of our lives, typhoons will rage and on occasion a deadly tsunami will occur. It is then that the test of our ship’s ability to stay afloat will be measured. During the War Between the States, as well as following wars, the oceans tested our soldiers. They felt the storms of life, the typhoons and hurricanes and some succumbed to the weight of the tsunami. The good ships were tested as well as the bad. Both good and bad ships felt the influence of the ocean, yet when they began to sink, some clang to their Anchor and realized a new life, while others crossed the dark cavern with complete fear of the uncharted waters ahead.
But what if everyone had smooth sailing? What if everyone laid their anchor in a safe harbor and did not explore the uncharted sea of life? This we KNOW! Everyday is uncharted. Each horizon affords us new experiences. We become stronger after we emerge from those experiences in uncharted waters. Yes the sea will rage and attempt to devour us but it is at that point that we must keep our vision focused upon the One That Walked On Water. For He can and will calm the seas that rant and rave around you. Did not Peter walk upon the water, as long as he kept his eyes upon the Lord Jesus? But as soon as he looked away and gazed at the magnitude of the ocean, he immediately fell into its depths. But at Peter’s lowest point, he feels the grasp of the Master’s hand as he once again is lifted above the sea’s temperament. Will He not do the same for you if called upon? It would be in His omnipotent character to do so.
How many of you feel the wrath of life’s sea and are finding yourself falling into the dark abyss? Are you aware that the Master’s hand is outstretched awaiting your hand to reach towards His? He is the Anchor and Rock of Ages. With Christ as your guide, no matter the intensity of the storm, you shall prevail. God has given us a promise written in blood. So fear neither the uncharted waters nor the storms that will occur during your life. But rather realize that you can do all things in Christ and He will not leave you as orphans, He will come to you. Call out to Jesus. He is the Captain of the vessel. Only then will you have smooth sailing in uncharted waters. I remain your obedient servant in Christ, The old general
