MEMBER PROFILE
Wendell Keith Brown
Colonel Ben E. Caudill Camp #1629

Wendell Brown

Wendell Brown is the son of Glenn and Fern (Caudill) Brown of Whitesburg and lives at Whitco. He is the brother to fellow camp members, Richard and David Brown. He also has a sister named Freda Campbell. He works underground as a shuttle car operator for Kentucky May Coal Company. He entered our camp as a great-great grandson of Lieutenant Jonathan Richmond of the 64th Virginia Mounted Infantry. Lieutenant Richmond was wounded at the Battle of Saltville while fighting alongside the men of Caudill’s Army. The Colonel Benjamin Caudill Camp has set a Confederate tombstone in his honor at Gray Cemetery at Esserville, Virginia. Wendell is also a descendant of the Revolutionary War soldier William Jesse Cornett.

Wendell works the night shift and does not get to attend our meetings but has been active in assisting with re-enactments in our area. He has helped set up the rail fences and other necessary parts at Leatherwood and Whitesburg. He enjoys working on the computer in his spare time and is very good at taking out modern items out of re-enactment pictures. Having a car or power line in a picture is no longer a problem with him printing the pictures. He loves to hunt and fish with his family and is also a member of the National Wild Turkey Federation and has assisted with their liter cleanups along the Little Shepherd Chapter. He has helped clean up and maintains several overgrown cemeteries in our area. He has also participated in several dedications. He enjoys reading and learning about the Civil War, especially about our local area as he is a direct descendent of the ‘Caudills’ of Caudill’s Army. Although feeling poorly, he attended the Hunley funeral and completed the long funeral procession. Though those cavalry boots left his feet with numerous blisters, he still tells anyone that will listen to him that trip was one of the most memorial experiences of his life. He is currently working on a CD with pictures of several of our camp’s activities. He is a man of integrity, modesty in all things and possesses a willingness to help all. He is a true southern gentleman and we are honored to have this man as a brother. You may reach him at wendellbrown32@hotmail.com
