Colonel Ben Caudill’s Camp #1629

June 20, 2002

Edition #6

To date, we have held 97 dedications! Over 499 stones have been set and 620 graves have been found. Camp members have held 13 dedications in the last 2 weeks! CONGRATULATIONS on the outstanding work!!!

A dedication for Fredrick Fleming will be held at 11:30 on Sat., June 22. It is at the Hemphill Cemetery, Jackhorn, Kentucky. It is in conjunction with the Fleming Reunion. Several family members wish to join. Lunch will be served. Come and honor the man and his descendants.

The election went well at Prestonsburg. Congratulations to Patton Jones!

Due to not distributing the tickets equally among members chances on the quilt are still being sold. The drawing will be held at the next meeting, July 18, 2002. Chances will be 1 for $2.00 or 3 for $5.00.

The Camp was represented at the Georgetown Reenactment. It was held on June 15-16. Okie Blair, Richard Brown, Tony Jones and Butch Chaltas attended. Information was gathered (Sutlers, events, etc.) to present to the Battle of Leatherwood Committee. Also, respects were paid at the Lexington Cemetery to General Morgan, Duke and Breckinridge.

The Camp has been asked to place a 30’ flagpole in front of the new church at Sandlick. They will give the camp a donation and open communications with that congregation regarding possible burial sites. Also this is a wonderful public relations opportunity as well as an educational one.
